Riding Around the World

September 22, 2019

I am an experienced equestrian in Colorado.

At home, I was fortunate enough that I could walk over to my neighbor’s house, saddle up their horse, Daphne, and ride all day alone through the mountains of Evergreen, without a care in the world. I taught myself to jump on a fallen log in the woods, and then started working with a wonderful trainer who taught me different jumping patterns and strategies to work with my horse. I have been riding consistently for two and a half years now but learned most of what I know last year. I am a fast learner on an equestrian level, so I became experienced very quickly.

Through my travels before this year I have tried to ride as much as I could in Mexico, Nepal, Colombia, and elsewhere. So, I thought it would be easy to ride consistently during this year, to work on my skills, and live my horse life around the world..But it’s been a bit trickier that I thought…

So far, in the month and a half we have been traveling, I have ridden three times. Back home, I would ride four to five times a week, so it is a big difference. On top of that all these rides are group led trail rides where I can’t expand my knowledge and practice my techniques. It’s tricky of course, and you don’t know how many times I have wanted to fly back home and jump back on Daphne or any of the other horses I work with and just ride.

But, we are on this journey for a reason, and if we just give up then we are going to get nowhere. I believe though that I am going to find a great place and a great horse one of these days and regain what I had back home.

We must keep believing things will happen for the better because they will if you believe.
